How to factory reset MacBook Pro or Any MacBook

How to factory reset MacBook Pro or Any MacBook

If you're looking to trade in, sell, or eliminate the virus from your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, one of the factory resets is the simplest method of removing it. But prior to doing this, you must take certain actions you'll need to perform to back up your data and to avoid any problems. At RMPT Our experts assist millions of customers with technological solutions similar to this daily for all their preferred devices. Here's a step-by-step guide for doing a factory reset on your MacBook.

When should you reset the factory settings on your MacBook?
Sometimes, a simple reset won't be enough. Resetting your device factory-fresh on your Mac resets the operating system, and deletes any user information which is essential to solving more complex system issues and preparing your computer to accommodate a new user or improving its performance if it has been slowed significantly in the course of time.

Prior to factory setting your MacBook
Before you dive in and clean the surface of your Mac, you'll need an order of operations to ensure that you don't lose important information.

These steps are intended for MacBooks that run with the Catalina operating system or the later versions.

Backup your data
It's essential to backup your data to avoid losing important files, images or programs. You can make use of the Time Machine(r) as well as iCloud(r) to protect your files.

How do I finish an Time Machine backup:
Add an external drive to your Mac.
Click on the Apple menu located in the upper left right-hand corner on your screen home.
Go to System Preferences and select Time Machine.
Click Choose Backup Disk.
Choose the name of the portable storage device and then select Use Disk.
Select Back Up Now to begin your backup.
How to finish your iCloud backup:
Click on the Apple menu located in the upper left right-hand corner on your screen home.
Go to on System Preferences, then Apple ID > iCloud. If you're prompted to sign in, log into the iCloud account.
Delete that Optimize Mac Storage checkbox.
Select the applications you wish to backup in the Apps folder on this Mac by using the iCloud menu.
If you'd like you to reset the Desktop settings, simply click Option below iCloud Drive. An additional window should open. Select Desktop and Documents Folders.

Log off from your Apple accounts
If you're considering offering or selling your Mac then you must do this step as it is the result of a security function called Activation Lock. It blocks your computer from being activated again if it is stolen or lost. If you're registered after you've deleted your Mac files the new user isn't able to go through the set-up process.

To log out of iCloud:
Click on the Apple menu located in the top left-hand corner of your desktop.
Click System Preferences to select Apple ID.
Select Overview on the sidebar below your email address and name.
Press the button to sign in.
To unsubscribe from Messages:
Use the command + space bar, and then enter "messages" within the Spotlight(r) search box.
Launch the Messages application.
In the bar menu located at the top, choose Preferences > Messages.
Click on the iMessage icon and then select the Sign Out option.
Unpair Bluetooth devices
While this step isn't required We recommend removing Bluetooth(r) devices in the event that you intend to erase your Mac and hand it over to a family member or friend. By doing this, your computer is prevented from accidentally absorbing old signals, if it is within the range of connected devices.

To detangle Bluetooth devices to your MacBook:
Click on the Apple menu located in the top left-hand corner of your desktop.
Click System Preferences to select Bluetooth.
Select the devices you would like to separate by pressing at the "X" button beside each device.
Reset NVRAM
The acronym is a reference to non-volatile random access memory. It holds information about your resolution on the screen, volume preference as well as time zone information in addition to other information. When you reset your MacBook you'll need to ensure that you change the NVRAM to erase your user preferences. This will stop your Mac from going through a crash whenever it reboots after you've deleted it.

How do you reset the NVRAM of your computer:
Shut off the Mac.
Switch it off and then press and hold option Command + P + R.
Let them go after 20 seconds.
5. Factory reset will erase the hard disk, then reinstall macOS
If you've completed the steps 1 through 4 and you're now prepared to reset the settings on your Mac. To begin the process, first you'll have to put your Mac into Recovery Mode. Here's how:

Shut off the Mac.
Switch it back on After that, press and hold the command plus Re. The keys should be released once you get an Apple logo. If you are prompted, type in your username and password for administrative use.

Click the erase button in the middle of the screen.
In the box that reads "Name," type in Macintosh HD. Then, in the "Format" box, select APFS (this will be visible on MacBooks with a newer model) and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) (this will be displayed on old MacBooks) from the menu.
Choose the Erase Volume Group (this could also mean Erase). The factory reset will start. When it's done you can press to click the Done button.
Shut down Disk Utilities by clicking the red "X" button located in on the left upper corner of this screen. It should return you to your MacOS screens for utilities. If not, restart your computer once more by pressing commands + R, until the screen for utilities appears.
